Petrognano is the village of a city, a disappeared city: Semifonte. The small settlement consists of a cluster of houses arranged along the road, many of which have turreted elements (referable to the XIII and XIV centuries) and a castle. Almost nothing remains of the ancient city but after the demolition of the structures, the materials were reused in several buildings located on the same hill. In these buildings there are tower-houses which in the following centuries were transformed into farmhouses, generally after having been cut off.
At the centre of the village of Petrognano Semifonte stands the dome of San Michele Arcangelo, whose project planned that the dome was 1/8 of that of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence. Around it the hill is intensely cultivated with vines and olive trees whereas on the slopes there are wooded areas.
This means that the landscape surrounding the property is characterized by buildings of high historical and cultural interest, along with the typical panorama of the Tuscan hills.
